My dad, Edward D. Helka, Sr., was drafted into the US Army on April 23, 1970 during the Vietnam War at age 20. Mom and Dad had been married the year before and my brother was just two months old when he left the house to serve his country. Dad was stationed at Camp Casey, Korea and served in active duty as a medic for the Aviation Battalion.
