Walter Larry Hanlin, was born in Highland Park, Michigan, March 6, 1923 to Roy and Eunice Hanlin and was one of eight children. Walt enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, November 9, 1942. Walt married his high school sweetheart, Kathleen (Kit) T. Brocco on March 17, 1943 in Yuma, Arizona before being shipped out on April 18, 1943. 

Walt engaged in action against the enemy at Okinawe Shima, Ryukyu Retto from April 2 1945 to June 21, 1945 and was honorably discharged on October 28, 1945. Walt and Kit had 11 children, 31 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
