A Community in Motion: Northville’s Moment to Celebrate and Look Ahead
As Executive Director of the Northville Chamber of Commerce, I am honored—and admittedly a bit humbled—to emcee this year’s State of the Community event on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Schoolcraft College. This will be my first time stepping into this role, and I can’t think of a better moment to do so. Northville is not just thriving—it’s evolving in ways that reflect both thoughtful planning and a deep commitment to community. This year’s program will feature three exceptional keynote speakers who each play a vital role in shaping Northville’s future: Mayor Brian Turnbull, Township Supervisor Mark Abbo, and Superintendent Dr. RJ Weber. Together, they represent the leadership, collaboration, and vision that continue to move our community forward.
What makes this year particularly special is the sheer volume of progress worth celebrating. Across Northville, we are seeing transformative development that balances growth with preservation. The redevelopment of the former Northville Downs property stands as one of the most significant projects in our community’s recent history. This site, long a recognizable landmark, is being reimagined into a vibrant, mixed-use destination that will bring new energy, economic opportunity, and connectivity to our downtown and beyond.
Equally exciting is the continued evolution of Legacy Park, a space that reflects our shared values—community gathering, recreation, and natural beauty. It’s more than just a park; it’s a symbol of how Northville prioritizes quality of life for residents of all ages.
As Northville approached its Bicentennial in 2027, there is so much positive to celebrate as we work together to overcome our challenges. The Northville Commons area, home to the beloved weekly Northville Farmers Market, remains a cornerstone of community engagement. Each market day is a reminder of what makes Northville unique: local businesses, fresh food, and neighbors coming together in a space that feels both welcoming and alive.
Infrastructure improvements across both the city and township are also making a meaningful impact. From road enhancements to utility upgrades, these projects may not always grab headlines, but they are essential to supporting our continued growth and ensuring that Northville remains a place where businesses can succeed and residents can thrive.
And of course, no conversation about Northville’s success would be complete without recognizing the outstanding work of Northville Public Schools. Under the leadership of Dr. RJ Weber, the district continues to set a high standard for educational excellence. Strong schools are the backbone of any great community, and we are fortunate to have a district that consistently delivers for students and families.
As I prepare to emcee this year’s event, I’m reminded that the State of the Community is more than just a report—it’s a reflection. It’s an opportunity to pause, take stock of where we are, and look ahead to where we’re going. It’s also a chance to recognize that none of this progress happens in isolation. It is the result of collaboration between local government, educators, businesses, and engaged residents.
Northville’s story is one of momentum, resilience, and vision. I am incredibly proud to be part of it, and I look forward to celebrating with all of you on April 24. Together, we are building on something truly special, our home, our town, Northville! Go Mustangs!
