  • David Gerald Smith proudly served as a lieutenant in the US Army Air Corps during World War II from 1943 to 1945. He was stationed throughout Europe, piloting the legendary B-17 "Flying Fortress" long-range bomber. Originally from Auburn, New York, he made his way to Michigan after the war, where he earned degrees from Alma College and the University of Michigan.
