  • Dr. Mary Lapham, a Northville native and nationally recognized pioneer in the treatment of tuberculosis, answered the call in early 1918 to head a Red Cross mission in war-torn Europe. At the age of 58, she established a dispensary and hospital in La Rochelle, France. In November 1918, Dr. Lapham was reassigned as director of medical services for the Red Cross in Prague, where she worked with war refugees. She remained in Europe until December 1919.

The Northville Woman's Club is honored to recognize Dr. Lapham, an 1892 charter member and past president of our organization, and benefactor of the community's library, now the New School Church.
