Dad was born in Ireland and at the age of 22 left his family and the farm behind to immigrate to the United States. Little did he know a short year and half later he'd be asked to fulfill his oath to bear arms for his adopted country, and was drafted into the US Army in 1951.

He was stationed as a rifleman in Germany during the Korean War. He served in active duty and the reserves from 1951-1957 and finally became a naturalized US citizen in 1961.
