Tom was in ROTC in college and entered active duty after Graduate School. He trained at Fort Benjamin Harris in Indianapolis. He served a year in Vietnam at Long Binh and finished his service at Fort Ord in California. He grew up in San Diego, California but moved to Northville with his wife, Judy, and their two children in 1975, where he raised his family and was active in his community.
