The Navy held a special place in our dad’s heart and he was always proud to have served his country. He and our mom were married in a small service and they immediately drove down to the naval base in Key West, Florida. Our dad shipped out on the USS Howard W. Gilmore while our mom stayed in a Quonset hut on the base. Whenever the Navy Hymn was played, he would get a tear in his eye but we knew he was proud to have served. We miss him every day. Our family honors our dad, grandfather and great grandfather and all those who have defended our country.
