NORTHVILLE, MI - (June 22, 2025) - Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Ed Huyck, and I have the honor of commanding Northville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4012, here in town.
As the leader of Post 4012 it is my responsibility to oversee not only the post home, located at 438 S. Main St., and its physical needs; but, the Veterans Plot in Rural Hill Cemetery as well. Maintenance of our building and its mechanicals is an ongoing drain on our limited funds, and the Veterans Plot at Rural Hill demands monetary attention as well.
In conjunction with our Northville Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, we are devoted to serve our community, and local Veterans and families. Over the holidays, and throughout the year, monetary assistance, food baskets, turkeys on Thanksgiving and gifts for children at Christmas are some of the community services we provide.
On Memorial Day VFW 4012 marches in honor of our fallen veterans. We march through town, stopping at Oak Wood Cemetery for a prayer and 21 gun salute, again on the bridge entrance to Rural Hill for our Navy tribute, and finally, to the Veterans Plot in Rural Hill for our service memorializing the veterans who have given their lives in service to our country.
For the hundreds who turned out, lining the parade route through town, all those who joined us at the Veterans Memorial ceremony, and other concerned citizens, I write this letter to bring attention to the deteriorating condition of the Veterans Plot at Rural Hill.
The asphalt walkways are in disrepair needing removal and resurfacing, The headstones need cleaning/straightening and the entrance arch needs refurbishing along with the posts and chain link barrier. All the necessary work along with a fund for general maintenance is in excess of $15,000.00, a sum beyond our resources.
Northville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4012, a 501c3 registered charity, is currently accepting donations for the above-mentioned work. Please consider a donation to: NORTHVILLE VFW POST 4012 VETERANS CEMETERY FUND, at 438 S. Main St., Northville, MI. 48167. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.
With respect,
Edward C. Huyck, Commander
Northville VFW Post 4012
