Captain Rundell, born in Pittsburgh, PA, graduated from Youngstown University and began Navy flight training in 1969. Over his 30-year career, he served as an Anti-Submarine Plane Commander on active duty before transferring to the Naval Reserve where he joined Patrol Squadron 93 and later became its Commanding Officer. He served two years aboard the USS Eisenhower and three years at the Pentagon. After retiring he flew for GM and the Michigan Flight Museum accumulating over 18,000 flight hours.
